The growing community of Penhold is centrally located between Red Deer and Innisfail on Highway 2A. Its close proximity to Red Deer allows for residents to savour everything a small town has to offer without sacrificing on any of the amenities a large city provides. With a population nearing 3,000 who reside in over 900 homes, this area continues to see steady growth. Primarily grounded by an agricultural economic base, this young community with a median age of 31.5 has become an attractive place to raise a family. With the building of the brand new Penhold Crossing Secondary School, kids are able to remain in town for the duration of their entire Kindergarten through Grade 12 education.
There is a strong emphasis on supporting the diversity of the different age groups represented. For students between grades 5 and 12, there’s a Penhold Youth Club dedicated to empowering youth. There’s also a Youth Advisory Committee to promote leadership skills among teens. For families, there’s a Family and Community Support Services dedicated to enhancing their social well-being. Seniors have access to a Drop In Centre where they are able to participate in games, meals, and bingo.
The town’s emphasis on relationship-building is enhanced by the multitude of annual events organized by very dedicated and creative volunteers. Events like Winterfest, Penhold Days, and Women’s Wellness Days serve to nurture the strong ties of friendships that exist and promote the budding of new ones. In addition to their focus on relationship building, Penhold is home to a Multiplex facility that boasts an NHL size hockey arena, an indoor running track overlooking the arena, a library, dance studio, and amazing recreational programs for all ages. In the summer, ball diamonds come alive, soccer fields get traction, and the splash park teems with children’s laughter.
